Chris Conway

Chris Conway hails from the USA but came to the UK as a child. He has been a professional musician for over 20 years and plays in many genres – jazz, singer-songwriter, Celtic, world music, new age and electronic music releasing over 80 albums.

He has played with members of Jethro Tull and Fairport Convention and toured with Peter Tork (Monkees). He’s also played with composer Gavin Bryars, tabla player Talvin Singh, violinist Dr L Subramanium, and jazz trumpeter Guy Barker. Brazilian jazz diva Ithamara Koorax and folk singer Vikki Clayton have both recorded his songs.

He has played the theremin for 10 years and performs and records solo and with groups, his current one. a duo called Memory Wire. His theremin music is usually improvised and ambient. Layering effects like harmonizer, delay, filters and reverb, he builds gentle walls of theremin sound intermixed with voice, flutes or kalimba thrown into the mix. He has run Quadelectronic – a monthly improvised electronic music event in Leicester for 3 years . A Youtube search for “Quadelectronic Chris” will show him in many group improvisations from these events.
He also enjoys sneaking a little theremin onto new age, Celtic, jazz and folk albums.
